ABOUT MAYA

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawing. There are sketchbooks full of my art from childhood, detailing my learning process. Both my parents are artists; working in many forms of media. Sculpture, clay, paint, paper, wood, etc.

I studied fine art at the University of Montevallo and Auburn University. After graduating with a BFA from the University of Montevallo, I worked as a graphic designer for SlaughterHanson design agency for five years. Here, I learned the value of hard work and powerful, clean design.

I went on to work for Cooking Light Magazine—one of the largest food publications in the country at the time—for over 15 years. I worked as a Designer, Assistant Art Director, and Art Director while continuing to cultivate my portfolio and build lifelong friendships. After leaving Cooking Light, I explored making hand-cut cards and handmade jewelry.

Today, I spend much of my time painting and drawing in my home studio. I’m fortunate to do what I love and my family allows me to cultivate my passion. I’m interested in light, the little details of shadows, the curl of a dog’s tail, a thread, and any small thing that might not be noticeable immediately.

Thank you for visiting and considering my work. I hope you find some happiness here. If you’re interested in beginning a project, commissioning an original work, or purchasing a painting to add to your world — I’d love to talk.
